Flowering species such as apricot and cherry give a striking contrast between the old craggy bark and young vibrant flowers. Deciduous varieties such as maples and hornbeams that put on as spectacular autumnal display, are often used for bonsai as well. Bonsai can truly be viewed and appreciated in all four seasons.
